Step by Step, How to choose a Manufacturer?

Review Manufacturer

Reviewing the manufacturer is very important.

It will determine the cost, quality control, packaging and shipping of your product, which is what really makes or breaks your business.

We need to do our vetting well in advance so we don’t have to review it after the fact.

I wasted 5 months of my life because of the wrong service provider and I hope you can learn from my experience.

You need to contact the manufacturer directly and not deal with a trading company.

A trading company is essentially a middleman.

How can you tell if your supplier is a trader or a manufacturer?

1.Confirm the website address

However, it is a good sign if the manufacturer is usually located on a certain road rather than on a certain floor of a building.

You need to make sure that you are working with an honest businessman.

Therefore, if you notice any red flags, make a note of them.

To be 100% sure, you can always schedule a video call to view the manufacturer’s production floor!

If your meeting is delayed, this is a red flag.

Trust your instincts.

2. The number of years the manufacturer has been in business.

It’s like a job interview, I can’t trust the fate of my company to an employee with only one year of experience.

I usually ask for 5+ years, which means you basically don’t have to pay for the manufacturer’s mistakes.

3. The level of expertise of the maker

If he makes both seals and tutus, you need to think twice.

Manufacturers who specialize in specific industry markets will reflect their influence in sourcing raw materials.

Secondly, it also means they have great workers. Workers who focus on one thing day in and day out will consistently and reliably produce high quality products.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Shower System

When you find manufacturers of Shower Door Seal in China and are in the process of screening, these are the 9 important questions you need to focus on.

1.Can they fulfill your customized order?

Are resources available? Is the skill level achieved?

2. What is the minimum order quantity?

Often manufacturers need to fulfill a certain number of specific orders.

In general, choose the start with the smallest quantity requirement so that you can test the market and not have to worry about stocking or selling, or quantities that are too large to manage the product.

3. What is the lead time?

Find out how long it takes to produce and ship your items.

This is important because you don’t have to work with a manufacturer that takes 3 months to survive and ship!

Longer lead times can lead to unhappy customers and people don’t want to wait for orders

4. How much is the shipping cost?

If you are sourcing from China, the shipping cost will be lower in coastal cities.

Transportation fee will take up a large part of the cost, and knowing it in advance will give you a clearer idea of the profit margin of your products.

5.What is the cost per unit?

You also need to understand negotiated unit costs.

The larger the order, the lower the unit cost

6.can they grant you exclusivity?

If you have already paid for your equipment molds, the manufacturer needs to grant you exclusivity to ensure that other customers are not allowed to use the equipment you have already paid for.

This includes geographic exclusivity, market exclusivity and full exclusivity.

You also need to determine who owns the molds or other necessary equipment when you are changing manufacturers.

7. Are there any installation costs involved?

Different processes may involve installation costs, so you will need to ask about this in advance.

8.what’s their defect policy?

If you have received a non-conforming or invalid shipment, please understand the terms and conditions.

For example, will the cost of replacing the goods be covered? Who pays for additional shipping costs and duties?

9.is the manufacturer sustainable and ethical?

Learn about the factory, e.g. how old are the people working? Do they have regular breaks? What is your manufacturer’s policy on discrimination?

In addition to being socially ethical, how does it affect the environment and how is waste managed? Is dirty water disposed of safely? Or is it just dumped back into the ocean?

Every industry has a unique impact on the environment and on people.

Jack Liu, SIMBA founder

Now that you’ve found a manufacturer you want to work with, it’s time to understand your design requirements.

Start by asking your manufacturer if they can create your design, these are smart, well-equipped professionals who most of the time can handle your product design.

  • Sketches
  • Written specification
  • Reference photos

can all convey your ideas.

Order Samples

You’ll need to ask your supplier to send you samples before ordering, which can create some back and forth when can ensure that you test the product before a large order.

It is recommended that you keep 2 copies and send both back to the manufacturer so that you can refer to the approved samples if the size or color doesn’t fit.

This is the control sample.

I have made the mistake of not doing that.

The product that was sent was similar but not what I wanted.

Conference

The final step is negotiation and you need to document everything.

Having records and contracts can eliminate a lot of space

Secondly, when negotiating, you need to put yourself in the other person’s shoes; this is fair to both parties.

Your focus is not on how much you can squeeze out of your co-op partner, but rather how you can mutually benefit each other?

A mutually beneficial business relationship is a healthy choice for the long term.

Place your order

The final step is to place the order.

Here are some tips to make sure everything goes smoothly.

At first, you will need to perform a 100% quality control check.

What I mean by this is that every item they ship to you needs to be checked. Make sure they compound the standards.

Once you know them well enough, after a year, you can start to relax the quality control.

All you need to do is pick 50 items out of the box and if they are all good, then you accept the order.

If 1 or 2 are bad, then you have to check the whole order.

Conclusion

This is my last tip and the most important.

When you’re first starting out you might be thinking, I don’t really know what I’m doing, should I negotiate? I’m confused, I’m not sure.

But I want to tell you that you’re going to make mistakes, it’s not a matter of whether you want to or not, you’re definitely going to make mistakes, but the most important thing is that you enjoy it.

Of course you want to keep your eyes open and want to perform as well as you can, but if we take a little bit of time to enjoy what we’re actually involved in and participate in the journey, we’ll find our opportunities and successes.
